Shazia Javid

Shazia qualified as a solicitor in March 2010.

Experience:


Shazia obtained a degree in Law from the University of Kent in 2003.  Following a year of travelling, she returned to London and worked as a paralegal/outdoor clerk for 2 years, gaining experience in criminal and personal injury law.  She then went on to complete the LPC (public legal services route) at the College of Law, passing with distinction.  She joined Edwards Duthie in August 2007 and is an accredited police station representative.  Shazia completed her seats in criminal law, civil litigation and child care.

Shazia is a member of the Haldane Society and Young Legal Aid Lawyers.

Clients/Cases of Interest:


Represented a 14-year old boy accused of rape against a 5-year old relative.  Successfully made representations that the case was suitable for a final warning. 

Represented a mother accused of attempted murder against her child at the police station.  

Case preparation in a Fraud case where the prosecution alleged the value of benefit to be over £200,000.  Preparation of schedules showed the benefit that could be proved to be less that £500.00.  This assisted in the offering of a basis of plea which was accepted by the Crown.  The client received a suspended sentence.  

Legal research on the admissibility of evidence from family proceedings in criminal proceedings.
