House of Lords Appeal and the European Court
Edwards Duthie acted for a doctor who had been granted leave to intervene in the Countryside Alliance appeal. Edwards Duthie have been notified that following a preliminary examination of the admissibility of the appeal, the President of the Chamber has invited the UK Government to respond on observations of admissibility and merits. This appeal and the doctor’s application to intervene were not allowed by the Judicial Committee of the House of Lords. The proceedings before the House of Lords has attracted a lot of public interest over the last few years being concerned with the ban on fox hunting and the repercussions of the ban.
An application for leave to appeal has now been submitted to the European Court of Human Rights. Edwards Duthie is seeking to challenge the decision of the House of Lords and the principles which were applied in the Countryside Alliance Appeal.
