Headed by Senior Partner, Shaun Murphy, and Equity Partner, Bernard Huber, this Department is nationally recognised for its expertise in defending clients at all levels in criminal and professional malfeasance cases.
We are engaged in representation at all levels, from the Magistrates Court to the Court of Appeal/Privy Council.
The department currently has 14 qualified solicitors specialising in this area assisted by supported staff. We are used to dealing with highly complex and serious cases. The firm is a member of the Very High Costs/Serious Fraud Panel and is one of the limited number of firms in the country recognised by the Legal Services Commission as being qualified to take on this type of work.
We are also regularly instructed by medical insurers - the Medical Protection Society - to represent doctors in allegations of professional malfeasance. These can include issues of professional negligence, professional misconduct and allegations of a criminal nature. We are instructed to represent doctors in a variety of forums - Health Service Tribunals, the General Medical Council, Appellate Courts - the High Court and the Privy Council - as well as the Criminal Courts. In the last 12 months we have been involved in 3 reported cases, establishing new principles of law into the field of professional regulation of doctors following the implementation of the Human Rights Act 1988.
We are also retained to prosecute cases on behalf of public bodies clients for whom we prosecute include Port of London Authority, National Probation Service, London Borough of Barking & Dagenham and Transport for London.
We are able to offer an in-house specialist advocacy service. All of our solicitors regularly practise as advocates in the Courts. We are also able to undertake advocacy in the higher courts, and have successfully included cases on behalf of clients (without recourse to Counsel) in the Crown Court, Divisional Court and Criminal Court of Appeal. We can offer FREE Legal Aid and Initial free interview. Civil Actions against the Police Our specialist team are able to provide advice concerning claims against the Police or any other detaining authority. For example the client may need advice on an action against the Police for assault, entering the home without authority or false imprisonment. Further actions can include interference with your property or malicious prosecution.
